Maine Invitational Scratch Tournament

Hello bowlers, and welcome to the recap of the 7th and last M.I.S.T. of the 2012-2013 season. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for the M.I.S.T. this season. First, Moore's Pro Shop and owner Scott Moorefor sponsoring our Bowler of the Year competition. Moore's Pro Shop has been on board with the M.I.S.T. each season, and we look forward to another great working relationship next season. Moore's Pro Shop is the official pro shop of the M.I.S.T. and the place to go where more M.I.S.T. champions go. Call to set up your next appointment today at (207) 754-9395. Also, thank you to John Bovoyof Bowl Pro Sales. He provided a bottle of Knockout premium bowling ball cleaner to be given away at each tournament stop this season. We hope that John comes aboard for another exciting M.I.S.T. season in September. Lastly, I would like to thank Brunswick Bowling for their sponsorship of the M.I.S.T. Brunswick provided a high end bowling ball to be raffled off at each M.I.S.T. tournament this season. All the proceeds from the raffle balls went directly into the prize fund. Thanks to the raffles, we were able to add another $1,000 to the prize fund this season. Check out all of the latest Brunswick products at www.bowlwithbrunswick.com.

We enjoyed record success this season at the M.I.S.T., and that is thanks to you, the scratch bowlers. We try and give you a tournament to be proud of, with tough shots and good payouts, but your support is what drives this tournament, and for that I would like to say thank you very much. I would also like to thank Tom Giberti and his staff at Spare Time Recreation for hosting the M.I.S.T. They did a great job with all of our requests, and we look forward to returning next season. We had (35) entries which meant that we would have (9) qualifiers for the (1) game position round. We bowled on the 35ft. Team USA "Beijing" oil pattern, which meant that the oil would be shorter, and speed and ball control would be keys to victory. Here are the results after the 4 game qualifier, with the cut line denoted by a "----":

Jason Ward – 798
Rick Campbell – 788
Joe Colcord – 783
Bob Nile – 779

Our top (9) qualifiers bowled a one game position round for a chance to add that to their (4) game total and possibly move up in the standings. Here are the final cash spots with money earned and Bowler of the Year points next to their name. The top (4) would roll off in the step ladder finals:

Jason Ward – 978
Joe Colcord – 975
Rick Campbell – 971
Bob Nile – 950
----------------------------
5) Dean Lagner – 941 / $100 / 50

7) Al Snyder – 934 / $70 / 40
8) Miles Coplan – 920 / $60 / 35
9) Craig Coplan – 873 / $55 / 30

Our first match featured 4th seeded Bob Nile against 3rd seed Rick Campbell. Here is the result of their match:

Bob Nile – 204
Rick Campbell – 19
2

Both men bowled very good games, but Bob pulled away late to take the victory and move onto the semi-final match. Rick finished 4th, earning $135 and taking home 60 BOY points on the day. Nice bowling Rick! Our semi-final match featured Joe Colcord taking on Bob Nile. Here is the result of that match:

Bob Nile – 158
Joe Colcord – 203

Once again we see why Joe was two time defending Bowler of the Year, as he cruised to a nice victory, setting himself up for a chance to bowl for the title. Bob had a great day, getting a 3rd place finish, $180, and 70 BOY points. Great bowling Bob and good job all season long. Our final match featured top seeded Jason Ward going against Joe Colcord. Jason was the class of the lanes all day; could he finally break through for his first M.I.S.T. title? Let’s find out:

Joe Colcord – 248
Jason Ward – 218

This was a very good match, and unfortunately for Jason, Joe would not be denied on this day. Jason has nothing to hang his head over, though, as he grabs a nice 2nd place finish, a $230 pay day, and 80 BOY points on the day. Nice job Jason. The story here, though, was Joe Colcord, and his mastery of the championship pair. Joe picked up his only victory of the season, but proved he will be a force to be reckoned with again next season for the Bowler of the Year title. Joe picked up a nice $300 paycheck and 100 BOY points in our last tournament of the season. I will have a separate report with the final BOY standings, but here are the final standings from the M.I.S.T. tournament held on March 17, 2013 at Spare Time Recreation in Lewiston, ME., with BOY points earned next to each name:
